Women in Forex – Jody Samuels: “Women need to be so much more organized than men”

Jody SamuelsJody Samuels is still a trader, a coach and a business woman, as she was when we interviewed her for the first time five years ago. Her business is different in what she offers, but it is still about educating other traders. She talks about the challenges in working home and the sets of habits she needs to develop being her own boss. She also underlines how crucial it is for female traders to keep time for themselves – “The key is to be organized and to learn how to say ‘no’ when necessary.” Continue reading Women in Forex – Jody Samuels: “Women need to be so much more organized than men”

Women in Forex – Kathy Lien: “I’ve become more patient which I guess I can credit to my son”

Kathy LienFive years ago, when we interviewed Kathy Lien, she was Director of Currency Research at GFT. She is now running her own business together with partner Boris Schlossberg. And became a mum. And works from home. She’s experienced a lot of changes in only a few years. But at least one thing is still the same: she trades Forex passionately and dedicates as much time as possible to it, while keeping her private life as intact as possible: “I’m very good at compartmentalizing. I think if you allow each to filter into the different areas of your life it becomes a mess!” Continue reading Women in Forex – Kathy Lien: “I’ve become more patient which I guess I can credit to my son”

Women in Forex – Raghee Horner: “Balance is about juggling… success is about flow”

Raghee HornerRaghee Horner has been trading since she was 17, she’s now 43. Almost half her life.  We interviewed her in 2010 about her career and life. Today, as part of our “Women in Forex – 5 years later” series, we talked with her to know what she has been up to and if her views about her life have changed. “We as humans change very little”, she says. Raghee still trades and teaches, and still thinks that the markets don’t care about her gender. Her routine helps her in her day-to-day but she believes that “the idea of balance is a myth”. Women in Forex: Karen Jones: “Delegate as much as possible!”

Karen JonesBack in June 2010, we interviewed Karen Jones, for our “Women in Forex” series, that was published on FXStreet and in the FX Trader Magazine. Five years later, she has taken new and greater responsabilities, but basically thinks the same about being a woman in the industry. A new advice she gives to keep a good balance between personal and professional lives: “Make sure you prioritise the important parts of your life and outsource the rest if you can.”

FXStreet’s Ping Pong Tournament

Trofeu Conde de Riverola“, it’s how our Head of Content, Pere Monguió, called the Ping Pong Tournament that he organized in our office in the last weeks – a humoristic reference to “Trofeo Conde de Godó”, a famous Tennis tournament now called “Barcelona Open”… changing “Godó” for “Riverola”, the surname of the founder of FXStreet, Francesc Riverola 😉

Women in Forex – Triffany Hammond: “Trading fed so many parts of me that didn’t have fuel at the time”

Triffany HammondTriffany Hammond is the only of the 8 women we interviewed five years ago who is not working in the Forex industry anymore. She made a life change that is radical and utterly natural at the same time. She did love trading during over 10 years but quit – “I was in the wrong industry for the work I was really doing for people”. She is now a life coach.  Her reflection and understanding of who she is and what she – and in fact, we all – need in life is inspiring. It’s a long interview, but you – as a trader or not – might find stimulating ideas if you read it until the end! Continue reading Women in Forex – Triffany Hammond: “Trading fed so many parts of me that didn’t have fuel at the time”

Women in Forex – Carol Harmer: “It’s more a way of life than a job to me”

Carol HarmerLast time we talked with Carol Harmer, it was in June 2010. After 30 years in the banking sector, she was at the front of her company, “Charmer Charts” to train independent traders in technical analysis. She still trains traders and has joined a new trading room as a coach. Describing herself as a workaholic, Carol says she does not have much of a private life, but it is a choice and she is happy that way. She truly believes it’s possible to find a balance between work and personal life. She finds regrettable though that so few women trade. “Until they gain that confidence that they are more than capable of trading”, she says that will not change. Continue reading Women in Forex – Carol Harmer: “It’s more a way of life than a job to me”

Women in Forex – 5 years later

Five years ago, we published a series of interviews with women of the Forex trading world. We talked with 8 women with different backgrounds and profession and from different generations. But all passionately trading currencies. We wanted to know what they have been experiencing in the last 5 years: do they have the same job? Do they have the same opinions about men and women in Forex? How do they manage to balance private and professional lives?
