Meet Nuria, FXStreet’s Users Service Manager

Some of you might know her already. She is our Users Services Manager: if one day you wrote us an email through the “Contact us” form in the last 3 years, you probably have received a reply from Nuria. She’s been working in the FXStreet’s Content Team for almost four years now. Besides taking care of our users requests, she is a web editor, taking care of content publishing, in particular in the Education section. Read our interview with this lovely girl and mum, a discreet colleague who smiles a lot!

How does a day in the life of the Users Service Manager at FXStreet look?

The first thing I do when I arrive is checking my emails. Especially those from our users. I read them and decide what to do with every request. Most of the time I have to check the technical problems that users report, to understand the origin of the problem. Some of the requests will be forwarded to other departments or answered requesting more information.

I’m in charge of the Education section too, so I have to update the highlighted content, publish new articles and sharing them on our Twitter account @FXSeducation.

How many “contact requests” emails do you get every day on average?

The number of contact request varies a lot. Some days I receive 10 or 15 and the next day I can receive 30. If it’s Christmas or Thanksgiving we receive 1 or 0! The day I’ve received more, I got 50 about the same issue. Most of the request we receive ask for more information about our sections or instructions to join or watch the live sessions. Obviously, we receive more emails if there’s a technical issue or an important Live Coverage.

What is the typical profile of the FXStreet user?

Most of our users are males (85%) between 25-44 years old from US and UK. However, we have a lot of users in Singapore, Canada and Australia too.

What do you like best about your job?

Without a doubt,  when I can quickly help users with their request and needs. It’s so gratifying! Specially if they answer with kind and encouraging words 😉

What do you like least about your job?

It is not common, but when you have to handle a request of a disrespectful user. It’s hard when you try to do your best but the other person is rude or always suspicious.
Fortunately this si not usual, most of our users are lovely people!

If you were not a Users Service Manager and Web Editor, what would you like to do for a living? (dream jobs are allowed!)

In my dreams, I would like to be an illustrator like Shaun Tan or Mariona Cabassa. I don’t have the
t of painting so if I had a lot of money I would like to set up an art gallery exclusively dedicated to illustration.
Something more realistic is doing something related to web and kids… or becoming a shiatsu therapist. This is one os my pending tasks.

Animated gifs are often used in internal emails among collaborators at FXStreet… share with us a gif that you particularly like!

Many people use headphones at the office… do you? What do you listen to?

Yes, I do!  I usually listen to music. But my headphones don’t work well and I just hear by one of the sides… sometimes I miss some chorus, haha! I have to fix them.

Your favorite bands of the moment?

These days I’m enjoying the new selections of Spotify: Beatles and David Bowie specials. But I often listen to Love of Lesbian, Kevin Johansen, Radiohead, Thomas Newman, INXS…

We usually share with some colleagues this song to overcome a bad day: Under pressure from Queen… and it works!

Any unconfessed vice or weird habits you have when working?

Very often you will find me listening to the podcasts of Cuarto Milenio, a bizarre tv programme about UFO’s, ghosts, lost civilizations and all these kinds of stuff. Maybe it sounds freaky but it relaxes me 🙂

Nuria in her personal life

What do you typically do when you get out of the office?

Run! I have to take the train to arrive at  Sant Cugat, a city near Barcelona where I live, to pick up my child from day nursery and then run home to work for one more hour. Then we usually try to do activities to tire him, hahaha He’s 2 and a half years old so he has a lot of energy and I don’t have as much as him! 😉

What are your vacation plans for 2016?

If the stars align we would like to go to Peru, so my kid and I discover the country where my husband was born. He still has a grandmother there and we’d like her to meet his great-grandson. And there I would finally taste the real ceviche! I’ve never been to Peru myself!

Explain us what “Ni Ni Ni” means on that picture of you?

It is the “Knights who says ni”, a scene that I love from my favourite movie: Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

What is your favorite website? Don’t say FXStreet 😉

Filmin! I recommend it to everyone! It’s a sort of Spanish Netflix – legal and paid movies streaming. They have a lot of films and I can spend a lot of  time just checking their catalogue. When my kid was a very young baby, this web saved my life! I didn’t have time to go to the cinema but with this website, I was able to watch good movies and stop them if I needed to take care of my son. Now, I can’t live without it!

I also love all those webs that share ideas on how recycling things to create furniture (like Ecoideas for example)

What is the last movie you’ve seen. Would you recommend it?

The Darjeeling Limited, a movie directed by Wes Anderson. I really enjoyed the performance of the actors. In my opinion it is not the best movie of this director, but I had a good time. I definitely prefer The Royal Tenenbaums or The Live Aquatic.

Do you have a pet?

Yes! I can’t imagine my life without pets. I love animals and specially cats. Now we have one, we adopted him from a care cats association in Barcelona (El Jardinet dels Gats), a wonderful place for cat’s lover in the center of the city. Here you have its picture!

Do you support the Barça? If not, dare to say which football team you support… if any 😉

I don’t really like football but I like the World Cup. When national teams play there’s something that makes me want to bet, I don’t know why. But I don’t have an eye for selecting the winner team. In fact, I discovered that I have the special gift to bet for the first who will be eliminated. So never bet the same as I do, if you want to win something…
