Meet Luis, FXStreet’s Senior SW Developer

Today we are excited to interview one of our team members from the IT department: Luis, one of FXStreet’s software developers since 2015. On this interview, he explains to us why he moved from Cuba to Barcelona and what he would love to do for a living if he wasn’t one of our IT guys.

Luis at work

How does a day in the life of an IT member at FXStreet look?

Interesting, every day we learn new things and although it can be a bit monotonous keep looking at the computer the whole day, we try to tell some jokes so we don’t end up talking to the screen.

What are your specialties as a software developer?

My specialties are applications and services server-side programming. But in my daily work I do a bit of everything: database management, client-side programming, etc.

What do you like least about your job?

I love my work, if I have to say one thing I would say the time that I spend in organizational tasks and meetings.

Any weird habit you have when working?

Moving my right leg and telling bad jokes hahaha

If you were not a website developer, what would you like to do for a living?

As a child, I always wanted to be an aircraft. I love airplanes but later on that idea took shape as a hobby. If I had to choose another job, I would love to become a teacher because I like to share knowledge. I admire people that are not satisfied with just what they know and look for something more.

If you were a teacher, what subject would you like to teach?

I love mathematics and programming, of course. Many years ago I had the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher and I liked it a lot.

About your professional career, what are the main goals that you want to achieve?

I would like to create a company based on a personal project and develop more as a programmer. Above all, I want to always have the possibility to learn and share knowledge and tools constantly.

And now it’s time to confess… Would you change something about your boss or co-workers?

Changing equipment would be enough haha. Joking aside, I have some colleagues whom I consider friends, they are always helping me no matter what.

Luis in his personal life

You are from Cuba. Why did you choose to move to Barcelona?

I came to Spain for love and to Barcelona for work. Today I have a thousand reasons to stay, but the first reason was love.

What do you typically do after work?

I have a little son who occupies all my free time after work.

Do you have any specific hobby that you would like to share with us?

I really enjoy Formula 1 and airplanes.

What are your holiday plans for 2018?

I want to visit my family and get to know a new city in Spain.

Do you like sports? If so, tell us your favorite team!

Tricky question hahaha … Ferrari and FC Barcelona, of course!
